LARRY WEAVER’S LEGACY LIVES ON

Corsicana, Texas – Dr. Larry Weaver’s impact on education will live on at Navarro College. A long-time Corsicana community member and Navarro College administration, Weaver lost his fight with cancer in November of 2012.  Navarro College elected to re-name the Navarro College Faculty Scholarship, which has been in place since the early 1990s, in memory of Weaver. The Dr. Larry Weaver Faculty and Staff Memorial Scholarship, awarded $14,500 in scholarships to 15 deserving Navarro College students during the 2014-15 academic year. This scholarship is funded by payroll deductions from Navarro College faculty and staff.

Students receiving Weaver scholarship for the 2014-15 academic year include:

  • Kathy Gentry of Streetman
  • Claudia Altamira of Corsicana
  • Kyndall Hodges of Ennis
  • Jackson Bagenzi of Tanzania
  • Kala Haley of Kerens
  • Kelsie Haley of Kerens
  • Maxwell Korley from Ghana
  • Ming Low of Malaysia
  • Kris Czerwinski of Ennis
  • Mark Kirby of Rice
  • Nora Reyna of Corsicana
  • Rashmi Silwal of Ennis
  • Nohemi Jimenez of Corsicana
  • Mdoe Msenga from Tanzania

Weaver, a graduate of the Air Force Academy, had a distinguished career in the Air Force as a helicopter pilot. After his retirement, he moved his family to Corsicana where he directed the Junior ROTC program at Corsicana High School for three years. He then joined the faculty at Navarro College and held several administrative positions. At the time of his death, Weaver was Dean of Arts, Sciences, and Humanities.

Navarro College congratulates the students who received the Dr. Larry Weaver Faculty and Staff Memorial Scholarship and commends the faculty for their dedication to academic excellence and helping students succeed.
